Lou Ann Weix (Green Bay)

Lou Ann Weix is a certified registered nurse anesthetist. She was appointed to the Wisconsin Board of Nursing by Governor Jim Doyle and is heavily involved with the Wisconsin Association of Nurse Anesthetists (WANA). Lou Ann is running for State Assembly in District 90.

Liz Jones (Woodville)

Liz Jones is a candidate for the Wisconsin State Assembly for the 29th District. She lives in Woodville, Wisconsin and have an adult son named Jordan who is attending Chippewa Valley Technical College.

Serving those in need and creating policy to better our communities is her passion.  She has worked in business environments and in the field of social justice and human rights and have served in a variety of roles in local public policy. She  currently work at a law firm in Hudson, teach yoga, and offer community wellness classes. This well-rounded experience will help me better represent you and your concerns in the legislature.

Her education includes a Master's degree in organizational leadership with a concentration in strategic management, as well as legal training. Her education focused on ethics and leadership and helped her to develop as an Ethical, Effective, and Enduring leader. She chose that education because she felt it would help her to be in a position where she can help people improve their lives and to push forward her journey to advocate for others.

Penny Bernard Schaber (Appleton)

Penny Bernard Schaber is the State Representative for the 57th Assembly District.  She was elected in 2008.  Penny is also an Emerge Alumnae (Class of 2007).  She is a retired physical therapist, with the last 10 years as a school physical therapist in the Oshkosh Schools. Penny was also a Peace corps volunteer at Campino Grande Brazil.  She is a former chair of both the Fox Valley Sierra Group and John Muir Chapter, Sierra Club.

 

In 2006, Penny ran for her current seat and earned 46.7% of the vote.  She ran again in 2008 and won the seat the second time around! Originally from Illinois, Penny has lived in Appleton for 25 years. 

Dianne Hesselbein (Middleton)

Dianne Hesselbein serves as District 9 supervisor for the county of Dane in Wisconsin and was just re-elected in 2010.Dianne is currently running for the State Assembly District 77.

JoCasta Zamarripa (Milwaukee)

JoCasta (or Joey) is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Planned Parenthood. Having run for local office, JoCasta continues to be passionate about voter engagement and organizing the Latino community to get out and vote. Recently, she was elected co-chair of the Milwaukee Teen Pregnancy Prevention Network (MTPPN), a coalition of community partners coordinated by Milwaukee Brighter Futures.

Sarah Shanahan (Madison)

Sarah is the Global Warming Program Associate for Clean Wisconsin and staffs the Global Warming Solutions Working Group of REAMP.  She works on a variety of tasks including research, analysis and organizing work related to global warming solutions.  Her prior experience includes a legislative internship with WISPIRG working on a textbooks campaign, canvassing and running a summer campaign office for the Fund for Public Interest, and various other public mobilizations efforts.  Sarah is a graduate of UW-Madison where she received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science.

Chandra Lay (Stevens Point)

Chandra keeps busy as both a Deputy Clerk for Portage County and a Realtor.  She is an active member in the Portage County Democratic Party, Young Professionals of Portage County and as a member of her local AFSCME union.  Chandra has been active in developing a program, “Getting Involved in Local Government: Which Role is Right for You?”

Carol Beals (Platteville)

Carol works as Deans Assistant at UW Platteville and is an active AFSCME member.  She is also a current County Board Supervisor and Chair of the Grant County Democratic Party.  Carol has also been involved in multiple campaigns, in addition to hers, including Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama, US Senator Russ Feingold, US Representative Ron Kind and State Representative Phil Garthwaite to name a few.  Carol also serves as Chair and volunteer member of the Board of Directors for Wisconsin Badger Camp, a camp for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Her involvement includes fund raising activities and promoting the work of the camp throughout the state.
